Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral and Maxillofacial surgery comprises a range of dental procedures that treat the craniomaxillofacial complex. This dentistry specialty corrects a variety of diseases, injuries and defects that are typically centralized in the head, neck, face, mouth, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral and maxillofacial region.

Typical oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures include reconstructive surgery, orthognathic surgery, craniofacial surgery and maxillomandibular advancement, as well as difficult tooth extractions and bone grafting. Other dental procedures that are considered oral and maxillofacial surgery include diagnoses and treatments of the following health and dental disorders:

  • Impacted teeth
  • Cysts and tumors
  • Cancer of the head and neck
  • Skin cancer of the lips and mouth
  • Cleft lip and palate
  • Chronic facial pain disorders
  • Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain
  • Incorrect bite and facial asymmetry
  • Fractures of the jaw, cheek bone, nasal, skull and eye socket
  • Sleep apnea

Oral and maxillofacial surgery also includes cosmetic procedures of the head and neck, such as facelift, browlift, rhinoplasty, septoplasty, cheek and chin augmentation, genioplasty, lip enhancement, liposuction of the next, chemical peel and botox and other injectable cosmetic treatments.
