Several years ago and quite by accident, I became a dentist without a hygienist. I assumed my hygienists’ duties and the results were both profound and unexpected. I learned that a preventive oral hygiene appointment is one of the most important visits in developing communication and trust. I learned that by treating all patients myself, including taking all x-rays and performing all preventive care, I was better able to serve my patients. All distractions were eliminated and I became a better listener. As I became a more skillful listener, my patients became better communicators.
Shifting my focus to one patient at a time without interruption allows me to focus my complete attention on the patient I am treating. I learned that by doing the preventive oral hygiene appointments myself the patient receives a more thorough examination because as the teeth are being polished I am doing a second examination of the oral cavity. This uninterrupted time we spend together is important in deciding your treatment.
It allows me to learn what is important to you, for me to alert and educate you about any problems that exist and it allows us to prioritize and explore treatment options that are available to you. It allows us to discuss in detail your concerns, whether they are restorative or cosmetic in nature. It is my opportunity to educate you on the proven connection between oral and systematic health and why the dentistry in my office is a comprehensive and not simply cosmetic approach.
I perform all dental services in my office, regardless of whether you are here for a complicated procedure or routine preventive care. In my practice there is no volume, patients are seen on time and my fees are the same for everyone. My patients receive quality and service in a relaxed, professional, friendly atmosphere.
